Woven national emblem removed from a Heer black Panzer M34 overseas cap by a New Zealand Infantry officer in eastern Cyrenaica, soiled woven white eagle on a black field, with some of the attachment threads remaining, this particular eagle was removed by Captain Wally von Schramm who was was commander of the NZ Graves Registration Unit in the 2nd NZ Infantry Division, in February-March 1942 von Schramm's unit cross crossed areas in eastern Cyrenaica checking battle sites that they identified from the grids of high resolution photos taken by RAF photo reconnaissance aircraft, Captain von Schramm souvenired items like shoulder straps and other insignia that came from uniform items that were found in vehicles or trenches, please paste the URL for more information about this officer, USD $195 SOLDhttps://www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-memorial/online-cenotaph/record/C33546
