Description
Original German WWII Luftwaffe M40 Single Decal Normandy Camouflaged Helmet Q64-This is an authentic German WWII M40 Luftwaffe helmet, featuring its original single decal configuration and a period applied Normandy camouflage finish. The camouflage appears to be a two to three tone spray pattern, with a tan base overlaid with subtle hues of green and brown, applied to break up the silhouette in the field. The shell is marked Q64, indicating production by Quist in size 64. The 2nd model Luftwaffe eagle decal remains partially visible on the left side, with much of the swastika and lower portion of the eagle legs obscured due to a scrape and the camouflage overlay. On the opposite side, there are traces of what appears to have been a post war applied Tri-Color shield decal that was later removed leaving behind a subtle outline where some of the camouflage was stripped away. The interior retains much of its original factory applied Luftwaffe gray-blue paint, along with a faintly visible lot or batch number. There is minor surface rust in the crown area, typical of helmets exposed to field use and age.The helmet retains its original leather liner, which still tight inside the helmet and shows age related dryness and wear. One of the liner fingers is broken and held in place by the drawstring, and the rear seam is separating due to deterioration of the original cotton thread. Despite the wear, it still has its original drawstring, a desirable detail for collectors. The split pins are tight and original to the helmet, with traces of both factory and camouflage paint still present. The original chinstrap is included and shows honest wear, a little stiff with the long strap partially broken off. The steel buckle exhibits minor surface rust and corrosion, consistent with age and field use.Overall, this is a very good example of a combat worn Luftwaffe M40 helmet with desirable period camouflage and fully original components, a strong addition to any serious WWII German helmet collection.
