French Sapeurs-Pompiers Brass Helmet, Circa 1830-1840, Fire Department

Sold
$350.00

Description

Original era manufacture. A very impressive looking, all brass construction helmet as worn by the Sapeurs-Pompiers during the early 19th century.Displaying many features reminiscent of cavalry helmets of the era, itis quite impressive looking, standing 9.5 inches in height, with a pleasing, old brass patina finish.Portions of the original lining remain with red horsehair in the marmoset and red horsehair tail sticking out at the back. Typical dings and dents from being tossed about for many years, yet looks like a million bucks sitting on a shelf, with its swept-back body and tall curved comb. There is ahole in the rear neck guard, likely punched there to hang it up for some reason.
