FLA1 Swastika removed from downed Luftwaffe Bf-109 in North Africa

Sold
$3975.00

Description

Swastika removed from downed Luftwaffe Bf-109 in North Africa, brought home by an Australian RAAF vet from El Alamein, piece measures roughly 36x36cm, swastika emblem appears to have been removed with a pair of metal snips, careful study of the surface indicates that the original factory light grey camouflage paint was carefully overpainted with the desert tan color, traces of the original paint can be seen where the paint abuts the stenciled swastika, the reverse surface is covered in grey primer, the base metal surface is aluminum, portions of the rear bracing materials remain, the riveted seam is intact, portions of the paint have flaked off the edges, one portion of the swastika is holed, perhaps through shrapnel, the rear surface has splashes from what may be oil, very interesting piece from a famous battle theatre that would make a nice collection center piece, USD $3975 SOLD
