Interesting grouping pertaining to KapitÀnleutnant Heinz Kummer, commander of U-467, group includes citations, photographs, and the U-467's guest book, also included is the award citation for the U-boat war badge dated 28 Apr. 1942 and bearing Dönitz' facsimile signature and a certificate for death in action dated 17 Jan. 1944 and signed in ink by flotilla commander, Lt. Commander Hans Cohausz, both documents folded, further included is a memorial publication 'Kriegsweihnacht 1942 U-467' which contains a list of all officers and crew members, a poem, descriptions accompanied by artwork of officer and crew functions, descriptions of the boats quarters and life on board, amusing anecdotes relating to the crew and words for the year ahead by the commander, there are eleven pages from a photo album with 47 inscribed clear photographs of the boat in harbor and sea as well as individual and group photographs of the crew training and at battle stations, the group also includes a guest book bound in brown leather presented by the Deutsche Werke Dockyards in Kiel on the occasion of the U-467 being put into commission on 15 Jul 1942, it has 18 pages with signatures, dedications, mottos, and illustrations from the training period in Kiel, Danzig, Gotenhafen, and Hela, in the final entry, a lieutenant and instructor for the 25th U-boat Flotilla bids farewell on 6 Mar 1943 in Danzig, also included are two thin, one-sided records 'Flucht nach Deutschland' (Escape to Germany), a recount of the experiences of Heinz Kummer during his escape from Argentina, where he and the remaining crew of the Graf Spee had been interned, Kummer reached Germany in the fall of 1940 by way of Chile, Peru, Japan, and Russia (the fake passport that he used during the trip is to be found at the Imperial War Museum in London), the records come with a playable CD, also included is a photocopy of a letter mailed from Buenos Aires in January 1940 to Kiel detailing the Graf Spee's last actions plus correspondence from a former owner of the grouping with the Imperial War Museum, and finally, a letter of condolence from a Korvettenkapitan u.
