Appealing Waffen-SS officer's visored cap, quintessential example as offered through the Clemens Wagner Kleiderkasse, mid war quality product having a high peak and a pleasing saddle shape, the cap body is made of field grey colored trikot wool, the cap band is black velvet, the piping is of white felt, having a black composite visor with crosshatched deep brown colored under surface, the aluminum metallic chin cord is held by two silver pebbled buttons, the silver washed zinc SS eagle and skull are affixed with prongs, it is suggested that the eagle is from maker 475/39 and that the skull is M1/24 Overhoff, the cap is lined in a cream colored rayon to which is stamped size 56 in black ink, an additional inventory stamp in large numbers 722 are attributed to Statni Film (Czech), an additional stamping to the lining has been obscured, the cap's brown leatherette sweatband has a couple of cracks and a small tear near the rear seam, a section of folded wartime newspaper dated Mar. '39 was placed between sweatband and cap body at the forehead position to improve fit, the cap was worn and is lightly aged, there are a couple of tiny stains to the top and a few surface moth nips to the cap's peak and one to the rear, none of these actually penetrate the fabric, piping is absolutely undamaged, SS officer caps from the Kleiderkasse are highly sought, USD $10,000 SOLD
