Heer M40 single decal rough texture half basket wire camouflaged helmet, Q64 shell, lot number appears to read T 46XX, having undisturbed steel liner bands and pins with their washers, the fine pigskin liner is stamped size 56, the original drawstring and full length unmarked chinstrap are still in place, the factory finish was overpainted externally by hand in a camouflage coat having sawdust mixed in, the upper dome has a cover of European chicken wire held into place with a length of baling wire joined at the helmet's rear, this section is affixed to the helmet with two additional lengths of wire hooked to either side, one length of wire at the right rear upper dome is broken, where the wire has come into contact with the helmet's surface the paint has reacted, the Heer decal was painted over but its outline is visible, though mostly intact the camo finish has fine scratches, chips, abrasions, and is a bit dusty and yellowed from age, the helmet pins show varying degrees of the camo paint, appealing combat used example, USD $4250 SOLD
