WW1 British War MedalTo- CAPT.R.POTTER.Robert Potter first landed in France as a cpl with the 1st Black Watch 13-8-1914 & is entitled to the 1914 star trio. He was commissioned in to his own unit in 1917 & attached to the 8th battalion. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 14-10-1918 & is buried in Aeroplane cemetery. He was 27 years of age at the time of his death & went on to be awarded the Military cross in the London gazette 15-2-1919 for services at Ypres just before his death.The citation states2.LT (A/Capt) Robert Potter.R.Highrs,Attd.8th.Bn.Throughout the operations east of Ypres from September 28th to October 4th 1918 he handled his company with skill & inspired them by his personal courage. On October 1st north of Ledgehem, where the enemy heavily counter-attacked, he immediately led his company into a support position to cover the withdrawal of the left flank troops who were threatened with envelopment. His coolness & ability had a splendid effect on the men & contributed not a little to the eventual holding of the attack on the line taken up.He is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Elizabeth.L.Potter of 64 High street, Dysart, Fife.NEF/EF & Complete with MIC details, London gazette details & medal roll details
