WWII German Army Artillery Officer Private Purchase Visor Cap-This example is produced in field grey, tricot woven wool that is in very good condition. It is very clean and has minimal wear in a few spots. The owner removed the top stiffening ring on the cap so it has a unique, sort of crusher look to it. The red artillery piping is in great condition. There is a dark green badge cloth center band. The insignia consists of an aluminum eagle, an aluminum cockade and a bullion wreath, very nice. The chin cord is silver bullion in the officer style with a pair of silver finished pebbled metal buttons. The visor is black vulkanfibre with some fading and wear. There is some glue inside at the visor for the sweatband which must have been a little loose there. The sweatband is ersatz leather and a bit crispy with wear. The top panel of the interior is lined in gold rayon while the sides are grey rayon. There is minor wear and discoloration from age and use. There was once a rhomboid shaped moisture shield that is missing. The maker info is clear and legible. The script 'Frischluft' is seen or 'fresh air' along with 'Stirndruckfrei' which is 'pressure free forehead'. There is also some glue residue around other areas of the sweatband. This is a size 55. A good looking cap overall!
