Description
This Norwegian overseas cap is in good condition, complete with insignia, and was worn by members of the Norwegian collaboration organization Arbeidstjeneste during the Second World War.The cap features a smooth inner lining and is stamped with size 57.During the German occupation of Norway (1940–1945), the Arbeidstjeneste (AT) was established as part of the efforts of the collaborationist regime led by Vidkun Quisling and his party Nasjonal Samling.Inspired by the German Reichsarbeitsdienst, the Norwegian AT aimed to shape young Norwegian men, primarily aged between 18 and 25, physically, mentally, and ideologically into obedient citizens in service of the National Socialist state.Participants were deployed on infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and military installations. Although participation was initially voluntary, pressure increased over time, and in practice, coercion or social pressure often played a role. The organization operated under a strict regime, with military discipline, uniform clothing, and ideological indoctrination. Thus, the AT was not merely a labor service, but also a tool for ideological influence and potential preparation for military service alongside German forces. After the war, participation in the Arbeidstjeneste was in many cases regarded as a form of collaboration. The organization was disbanded, and former members were subject to investigation or prosecution, depending on their level of involvement.A fascinating headgear item for the Norwegian collaboration collection!Article number: 16117
