Japanese WWII Naval Ship Building Worker Steel Helmet

Sold
$295.00

Description

Original era manufacture. A complete and original example of a Civil style brown painted steel helmet. Affixed to the front of the helmet is a three dimensional brass badge with a painted finish, depicting a ships propeller over an anchor. We purchased this helmet at the most recent SOS in Louisville, and while there showed to a good friend of ours who we consider to be an authority on such things. He commented that the badge itself comes in a few different varieties, and that these were worn by workers in Japanese shipbuilding firms during the war, including shake-down cruises at sea.Finish exhibits a mix of original brown paint and surface corrosion, simple adjustable cloth liner and chinstrap. Interesting numbers and characters painted on the inside rim.
