Description

You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a WW1 French Armée de l'Air, 8-Day Aircraft Cockpit Clock! This was used in various aircraft, such as the SPAD, Caudron, and Nieuport! This later-war Cockpit Clock dates around 1918. It was mounted on the forward instrument panel and indicated the current time. These were usually a standard pocket watch movement, with a specific case, designed for mounting directly onto the panel.Made of aluminum, brass, and steel, this WW1 Aircraft Clock is in EXCELLENT used condition! Over 100 years old, the dial is VERY CLEAR, but as with most clocks this age, does feature some wear. Fitted into a variety of fighter aircraft, it features an 8-day Swiss movement. The dial is marked,'Aviation Militaire – Import de Suisse'.It has been mounted onto a wood base, and features the remains of a label that originally indicated, 'From French Aircraft Shot down in World War One'. Due to the age there are some marks, scratches, and wear, but otherwise VERY solid. It is 100% functional, however it will most likely need a quick adjustment, as it runs a bit fast. A RARE item, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
