Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB example of a WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Type 92 Magnetic Compass, as used in various Japanese carrier-based aircraft such as the Nakajima A4N, Nakajima A2N, Mitsubishi A5M, and others! This is the rare EARLY version, that is not commonly seen! This instrument indicated the current direction of the aircraft and pointed to magnetic north. It was located on the main instrument panel, and was used in most early to mid-war aircraft.Made of brass and aluminum by Yokogawa Electric, this instrument is in EXCELLENT used condition! It was taken from a downed Japanese aircraft during the war, and it still retains 9% of its original paint and finish! Some slight marks and slight corrosion in some areas, but nothing that takes away from the overall appearance. Much of the original fluid still remains, and it is still 100% FUNCTIONAL! The data plate is an early war Type 4 aluminum version, and indicates:Type 92 Aviation Compass Model 1November 1934The adjustment knob is also 100% functional! The RARE feature is the UV Cockpit Lamp, that is still mounted onto the top! Comes complete with the original wood mounting panel and aluminum frame! Like most Japanese instruments, this item is VERY RARE and would be a FANTASTIC addition to any Japanese Instrument Collection!
