Description
You are bidding on a VERY RARE relic example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Dunkel Reviglass (Tinted Gunsight Glass), as used on all versions of the Stuvi 5B Gunsight,Fl.52835! This gunsight was specifically used in the Ju87, Ju88, Me210, and Me410!This late style Reviglass was manufactured around 1942-1945, and was used until the end of the war.The Stuvi 5B was manufactured later in the war, and was in use until war's end. It was produced in very small numbers and was used in aircraft equipped with guns and bombs. The angle of the aiming reticle could be adjusted, depending on speed, armament and angle of attack (thus the reticle moved up or down on the reflector glass). It calculated the impact point where the bombs will hit, and shows it on a HUD to the pilot. The a mechanical computer then determines the lead needed for the bombs, taking speed, angle, altitude, and wind into account.Basically, when dive bombing the 'old fashioned way', the pilot would need to take a given angle he has been trained in and estimate the amount of lead according to his experience. With the Stuvi, it allowed the pilot to attack in a very shallow or normal dive angle (without having to go vertical) and still keep very good accuracy. It was the predecessor of modern CCIP sights/HUD.The reported accuracy of bombs dropped by the Stuvi was within was 10m of target, at a height of 2000m.Made of cut, tinted glass, this item is in EXCELLENT relic condition. There is some scratching, stains, and some small chips, however these could easily be easily buffed out.100% original and NOT a reproduction!I have shown its location in the last image.Would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!
