Description
This is a SUPERB example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht 50-Round Belt Link containing LATE-WAR 7.92mm ammunition! These were actually NOT German-made, but rather CANADIAN-MADE for a wartime COVERT agreement between the OSS and the Canadian Government! These were made for use with CAPTURED German weapons, such as the K98 and MG34/MG42 in the late 1940s and early 1950s.This type of 7.92 x 57mm ammunition was made as part of a covert deal involving Canadian and U.S. agencies. The ammunition went to various places, and were issued with captured German weapons for covert operations. Some of this ammo has turned up in the 1960s as clandestine supplies to CIA backed insurgents in Central and South America. Some say that these were not made in 1944 at all, but in the late 1950s with a false date. It is assumed that these actually date from 1944, but whether a fresh batch was made later to confuse or it was simply that there was a suitable anonymous head stamp left over from the war is unknown.Made of brass and steel, this is a FANTASTIC set. This 50-round belt link contains 49 individual 7.92x57mm Rounds, each made by un unknown Canadian agency. All have a 1944 Production date, but it is unknown whether that is correct (see info above). All are unfired, however there are some marks and wear throughout from storage. All head stamps are MATCHING and easy to read. Belt itself is dated 1.40. A SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
