Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE set of Veteran Ammunition Bring-Backs, including a WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Issue Type 89 Knee Mortar Round! These were brought back by pfc. Donald Riley, who was a Stationed on Guam as a Toxic Gas Handler with the 802ns Chemical Company. The 802nd Chemical Company, Air Operations made vital contributions to the toxic-gas research. Their central focus was the incendiary bombing campaign launched from Guam and other Pacific Islands that destroyed large portions of Japan's cities.Eighty years ago, on February 3rd, 1945, the 802nd Chemical Company (Air Operations) participated in the official opening of North Field on Guam. They had arrived on Guam just two weeks earlier, assigned to establish and operate a 'Class V Air Chemical Ammunition Depot' supporting the B-29s of the 314th Bomb Wing, XXI Bomber Command. Commander of the XXI, Gen. Curtis LeMay, was also at the ceremony, where everyone watched the arrival of the Wing's first B-29s. Like other Chemical Companies on the nearby islands of Tinian and Saipan and in far-off India, the 802nd was an essential link in a supply chain that provided the U.S. Army Air Forces with access to two vitally important 'weapons of mass destruction.'Made of a brass and steel, these items are in AMAZING used condition!Manufactured between 1939 and 1945, they features MUCH of the original paint and finish!Numerous manufacture marks and inspection stamps. Complete with the original box these were sent home in, as well the Bring-Back Paperwork, dated November 19. 1945. The full list includes:2 Jap Knee Mortar Shells2 Shells, 50 cal.
