A scarce circa 1929 period 'Womens Farm & Garden Association Incorporated badge'; gilt circular example with blue enamel title surround, the centre depicting an embossed wheatsheaf superimposed on crossed pitchfork and hay rake with 'Founded 1899' below; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'W.O. Lewis (Badges) Ltd Birmingham'. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel. Diameter approx 25mmThe Women's Farm & Garden Association Incorporated' was first established in 1899 as 'The Women's Agricultural and Horticultural International Union' the name was changed to 'The Women's Farm and Garden Union in 1910 and to the Women's Farm and Garden Association in 1921, with the additional 'Incorporated' added in 1929. The society was responsible for the establishment of the 'Women's National Land Service Corps' in the First World War, which was taken over by the 'Board of Agriculture' in 1917.
