South African. Uitenhage Rifles Edwardian slouch hat badge

A fine scarce Edwardian example worn circa 1902-1913. Die-stamped brass metal crowned sprays, half of laurel, half of oak, centre bearing arms. Across the base of the wreath, a UITENHAGE RIFLES scroll. Two loops to the reverse. VGC (Owen 299)Raised 1894; became a company of Prince Alfred's Guard in 1913. Presented with a King's Colour for service during the Boer War.
