US Post Civil War, Ames Navy Bayonet & Scabbard 1870

Original period manufacture. A brass handled sword bayonet, with a 20 inch polished steel blade. Clear markings on both sides of the ricasso, with a mellow brass patina to the grip and guard. No evidence of sharpening, with scattered spotting and staining from age, just needs an intelligent cleaning. Original black leather bodied scabbard with brass throat and chape, the mounting stud is missing. The stitching is sound, the leather unbroken, with evidence of an old crease near the tip.
