Description
A fabulous M35 Army helmet that has been camouflage overpainted with thick woodchip mixed paint in the three classic Normandy colours of green , tan ochre & brown. The factory apple green paint can still be seen in places. This untouched helmet has had its army decal covered in accordance with the 1942 regulation to remove it. A small corner of one wing is still visible under the paint enabling us to ascertain the branch of service. As was common during the Normandy campaign it has had paint mixed with woodchip & sawdust to give it the rough texture effect , parts of the wood can be seen within the paint upon close inspection. It appears that the helmet was camouflaged once then overpainted again with the camouflage & woodchip mix typical of the Summer of 1944. A helmet that has clearly seen combat action it has also had the underside of its rim overpainted twice in green this also being seen on the its reinforced aluminium rim where the paint was sloppilly applied. Beneath the camouflage paint at helmets rear rim underside can be seen three digits of the soldiers number this then overpainted later & two initials scratched into the paint. Liner comes uncleaned with all three liner pins having matching paint to exterior .Maker of shell & size not visible due to its overpainting. Finally the chinstrap is maker marked with clear 1940 date.
