Description
Prisoner of War ID-disc for 'Stalag 2c'. This ID-disc (Erkennungsmarke) was intended for a person that was held as a prisoner in 'Stalag 2c'. Stalag II-C was a German prisoner-of-war camp in Greifswald, Germany. The camp was in operation from June 1940 to April 1945. It immediately held 5.000 prisoners of war, primarily French, Belgian, and Russian prisoners. On 30 April 1945, the camp, which had since been abandoned by German troops, was liberated by the Red Army. The prisoners remained in custody until 2 May before being able to return home on their own. The zinc-type disc is complete with its original carrying cord as found together. The disc is individually numbered with number '33589'. Rare original example!
