Description

Original period manufacture. A very clean example, near full complement of original eagle buttons, 1 missing, both support pillows are in place, tape trim is securely sewn. Functioning, two button cuffs, hand sewn buttonholes, no moth issues to report. Simple white muslin lining with matching material sleeve lining, U.S. QMD inkstamp in the left shoulder. The 160 year old stitching has given way at the collar, revealing the buckram stiffner inside. The lining stitching is also loose near the inner pocket opening and in places on the bottom hem of the lining where the muslin meets the wool. While inspecting the coat I found an interesting cardboard tag, bearing the initials H.P.W. No.1, likely an inspectors tag with the coat size noted as 1, or small. A nice clean example, certainly never worn. Size about a 34.
