German Imperial Era, Infantry Officer's Visor Hat, Kingdom of Prussia, Freiherr Cypher

Sold
$395.00

Description

Original period manufacture. Garden variety blue wool Infantry officers visor hat of the pre-WWI Imperial German Army. Dark blue wool top, red wool band and piping, and in fairly nice condition for its age. No moth issues to report, not crushed or flattened, with both officer pattern cockades in place. The sweatband is securely sewn to the body of the hat, with a white silk lining emblazoned with a 7 point, open top, printed gilt crown with a gothic letter A below. During Germany's Imperial Era, there were a number of different patterns of crown emblems a member of royalty could use to denote their status in society. This pattern crown would be used by an individual with the royal status of Freiherr, or Baron, whose first name began with the letter A. Size about a 58, the rear of the cap band has been pushed in a bit.
