Description
Original period manufacture. Tan canvas cover with a very clear infantry stencil on the front, identifying the unit as 4th Regiment, Company H, 17th soldier. Maker marked and 1917 dated under the left securing flap. Aluminum WWI pattern canteen which is unmarked, no cork in the screw cap. Unmarked WWI pattern aluminum cup. Service staining to the cover, no holes or tears. During WWI, the 3rd Infantry Division saw combat service in the following engagements and offensives, Aisne, Chateau-Thierry, Second Battle of the Marne, Third Battle of the Aisne, St.Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne, earning the honorific title 'Rock of the Marne'.
