Description

Original era manufacture. Recently we purchased a number of items from the family of Sergeant Duane C. Hinkle, US Army, who served in the 735th Ordnance Company during WWII. According to his daughter and son-in-law, Sergeant Hinkle spoke of gathering up firearms and other weaponry, piled in the streets of a recently captured German town. These items were brought home from that pile after WWII.Belgian made bayonet with most of its original finish remaining on the blade, and retaining its original muzzle ring. The blade measures just over 10 inches in length, with a central raised ridge. Sound original finish wood grips, displaying typical marring from age and use. Mix blue and steel patina to the guard and pommel with some light surface corrosion. Blue steel scabbard with scattered surface corrosion and mix of steel and blue finish. of interest is the tip of the scabbard which has been arsenal modified during the shortening of the blade process. The removed the tip from the original longer length scabbard and welded to the shortened scabbard body in order to give a proper fit to the blade tip, interesting.Matching numbers 33580 on the guard and frog stud.
