Description
Rare original Kriegsmarine 'Vorpostenflottille Abschnitt Kanal' Cap Badge (Schiffchenabzeichen). This cap-badge was worn by members of the '18. Vorpostenflottille'. The Flottille was formed on 3 October 1940 and was mainly active in the Channel. After the Allied invasion of France, the Flottille was moved to southern Norway. The cap-badge is nicely enamelled, there are some normal traces of usage but the enamel is in overall very good condition. The badge is sized 5,3 x 4,1 cms. The cap badge was bought directly from the family of the Kriegsmarine soldier it belonged to: Verwaltungsobergefreiter 'Friedrich Wille'. An original family portrait showing him with his parents will be included, together with a print of the German Archive (Deutsche Dienststelle) showing his career during the war. Friedrich started his career in the German Navy on 14 January 1942 within the '3. Kompanie 14. Schiffsstammabteilung' in Breda (the Netherlands). From 28 February 1942 he served within the '18. Vorpostenflottille Boot '10'' als an assistant cook. He served only one month within the 18. Vorpostenflottille, on 25 March 1942 he was already transferred to the 'Marinestammregiment Beverloo' (Belgium). On 20 October 1942 he was transferred to the '1. Flottillenstammregiment' and on 5 September 1943 to the 'Hafenschutzflottille Bergen' (Norway) as a cook. From 20 December 1944 until the end of the war he served within the '1 Räumbootsflottille'. He was held in British captivity until 18 July 1945. Very rare and interesting original Kriegsmarine 'Vorpostenflottille' cap badge with history!
