A good original post 1941 wartime period 'National Fire Service NFS 36 Essex Fire Force Area printed breast badge'; large circular navy twill example, the reverse with khaki wool backing. Very good unissued condition.Diameter Approx 71mm.The Auxiliary Fire Service was formed in 1938 from unpaid part-time volunteers to supplement the work of the local Fire Brigade units in the time of emergency, it was superseded in 1941 by the National Fire Service, reformed again in 1948 alongside of the Civil Defence Corps and finally disbanded in 1968.
