A scarce original early First World War period 'On War Service numbered identification badge'; large circular gilt brass example, the top surmounted by a Rose, Thistle and Shamrock the united emblems of England, Scotland and Ireland; the centre with red enamel crescent and initials 'BM&Co' within a blue enamel title surround 'Brunner Mond & Co Ltd Making War Material'; the reverse impressed with maker's details 'T. Fattorini Bolton' and 'Reg 638232' a registered, design and patent date of 1914 and complete with official issue number '2108'. Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel, gilt finish remains bright.Height 37mm.During the First World 'Brunner Mond & Co Ltd of Northwich, Cheshire made munitions for government use.
