Description
You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht Issue Helvetia Service Wrist Watch!Produced for the German military, all issued wristwatches were required to follow a specific standard, this being: case made of achromium plated brass; a manual winding movement; water resistant; dust/moisture proof; and are a total of 15 jewels.A secondary hand is to be located at the 6 o'clock position indicating seconds, and both main hands are to be luminous. The DI H marked watches are subject of controversy. Come sources confirm they were issued to German Forces for surveillance purposes (A Concise Guide to Military Timepieces 1880 -1990' by Z.M. Wesolowski) , however, other sources say they were issued to the German Italian Afrikacorps units.Made of a chrome-plated brass case, this Swiss-made Helvetia 'Type 1' watch is in EXCELLENT functioning condition! There is somescratching on the crystal, and some wear on the dial, however there is NO damage or corrosion! This RARE variant featuring a sweep second hand were manufactured in VERY LIMITED quantities (less than 4500).The manufacture name is clearly marked on the face, and was manufactured between 1942 and 1943.Being in used condition, the case doesshow some signs of wear (scratches, marks, patina), but it is in otherwise EXCELLENT condition for its age. Though difficult to read, thereverse is stamped with 'D.I. 002975 H' (D.I. = Dienstuhr Italien(?) Heer Service Watch). The strap is a replacement, probably from the 1950s.For reference, the other codes produced were:D H:Dienstuhr HeerD:Dienstuhr LuftwaffeDRGM:Deutsches Reich GebrauchsmusterRLM:ReichsluftfahrtministeriumKM:KriegsmarineD U:Dienstuhr (Verwaltung)DI H:Dienstuhr Italien(?) HeerNote that the movement has not been serviced in 30 years, so even though it is currently running, I would suggest getting it cleaned for daily use/wear. A VERY nice and original item for any collection, or display!
