WW1 Imperial Prussian / German Army – M1917 GAS MASK & CANISTER – VERY NICE!

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of a WW1 Imperial Prussian Heer M1917 Gas Mask and Canister!These masks were issued to all personnel throughout the war.With the development of poisonous gases used as offensive weapons throughout WW1, appropriate defensive gasmasks had to be developed.The early M1915 and 1917 gasmasks evolved into the M24, and eventually into the M30 and M38 versions.All German Army and Airforce personnel were issued a gas mask, carry canister and accessories, and were required to have them ready at all times.Made of leather and rubber, this M1917 pattern gas mask is in SUPERB condition, and all the straps and buckles are intact!The metal alloy eye socket frames and snout retain 95% original paint, and the celluloid eye-socket lenses are solid.Overall it is in VERY GOOD condition, and the leather is still VERY soft/supple. The interior features a stamp, indicating 'JR', as well as a '2'. This could reference '(J)äger (R)egiment 2″…or simply a manufacture stamp and size indicator. The filter has a production date of1917, along with '9.A.G.D.'.The canister is EXCELLENT, retaining with 95% of its original paint. The often missing instruction sheet still lays in the bottom, and the lid features a compartment with two spare lenses, both having a production date of 1916. Some wear due to the age, but nothing that detracts. Bottom features a faint manufacture ink stamp and date of 1917. The straps are a modern reproduction, as the originals usually rot away over time. Would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
