WW2 German Luftwaffe LKpW101 Fliegerkopfhaube – WINTER FUR FLIGHT HELMET – RARE!

You are bidding on a NICE used example of an EARLY WW2 German Luftwaffe LKpW101 Fliegerkopfhaube fur Winter mit FT-Gerat (Winter Flight Helmet with Communication Equipment), Ln. 26618! This is the MUCH RARER Rabbit Fur lined version.During WW1, most pilots quickly realized the need for protective headgear due to the cold weather effects while in an open cockpit.As no headgear was readily available, pilots were forced to utilize commercially produced leather motorcycle and automobile helmets.During WW2, the German military produced approx. 10 variations of flight helmets for various operational conditions, as well as with or without radio communication equipment.This specific helmet was designed with radio equipment for fighter and bomber pilots.It was similar to the earlier model used in the early months of the Battle of Britain (LWpW100), however with updated features.Made of leather, fleece, and rabbit fur, this helmet is in EXCELLENT used condition. There are no rips or tears, and the leather is still very soft and supple. All snaps, tabs, and buckles work correctly, and retain their original paint. All the electrics are 100% intact (headphones, wiring, throat mic, plug) and function perfectly. All straps are fully adjustable, and the data label is still intact indicating, 'LKpW101, Ln.26618'. Some slight corrosion on some of the metal fittings, however this is normal for the age.The cellophane covers for the ear phones are also still fully intact, but feature some slight cracking. it is hard to read the size printed on the label, but it appears to indicate'59'. As it was used in combat, and as such, features some slight stains, wear, and marks along the throat mic straps and ear phones. A FANTASTIC combat-worn example, PERFECT for any collection or display!
