You are bidding on an EXCELLENT example of an UNFIRED WW2 German Wehrmacht RED 'Fallschirmleuchtpatrone' Signal Flare Cartridge! Used by the Heer, Luftwaffe, and Kriegsmarine.The 'Fallschirmleuchtpatrone' or 'Flare cartridge with parachute' was meant to illuminate the battlefield. After firing, a pyrotechnic delay expires and ignites the expulsion charge, and the aluminum bushing ejects the flare at approximately 40 meters, launching the ignited flare to 80m in height, opening the parachute by means of the windstream. The flare burns for approximately 15 seconds, emitting bright white light.Headwinds had to be taken into account to prevent the flare from being driven by the wind over one's own position and illuminating one's own position.Made of aluminum, this UNFIRED Signal Flare is in VERY NICE condition considering its age. Manufactured in 1943,it retains approx. 95% original paint and finish. Some slight wear and marks, but nothing that detracts.A VERY NICE example, it would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection or display!
