Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a 100% ORIGINAL WW2 German Luftwaffe U 10/S Umformer (Power Supply), Ln. 27375! This was used in conjunction with both the FuG202 and FuG 10 Aircraft Radio Systems, primarily installed in the Ju87, Ju88, He111, Me110 and others! The Lichtenstein radar was among the earliest airborne radars available to the Luftwaffe in World War II and the first one used exclusively for air interception. Developed by Telefunken, it was available in at least four major revisions, called FuG 202 Lichtenstein B/C, FuG 212 Lichtenstein C-1, FuG 220 Lichtenstein SN-2 and the very rarely used FuG 228 Lichtenstein SN-3. (FuG is short for Funk-GerΓ€t, radio set). The Lichtenstein series remained the only widely deployed airborne interception radar used by the Germans on their night fighters during the war β the competing FuG 216 through 218 Neptun mid-VHF band radar systems were meant as a potentially more versatile stop-gap system through 1944, until the microwave-based FuG 240 'Berlin' could be mass-produced; the Berlin system was still being tested when the war ended. This generator was used to power the FuG10 radio equipment used in German heavy fighters and bombers. The German FuG 10 panel, or rack, contains two transmitters and two receivers. One transmitter and its companion receiver operate in the 300-600 kc hand. The other transmitter and its associated receiver operate in the 3000-6000 kc band. Both units employ CW and MCW operation. No voice communication is used. In addition, the following units are mounted on the panel: A remote-controlled direction-finder operating in the 100-1100 kc band, a blind-landing device operating in the 28-32 Mc band, and an inter-phone system which serves to supply communication to the aircraft crew as well as to interrupt the CW transmission for purposes of ground homing. Equipment is non-crystal controlled and relies on capacitance compensation for frequency stainability. Facilities are available for tuning a predetermined spot on a dial to a master-signal station which is undoubtedly maintained on frequency by crystal control.Made of aluminum and steel, this Umformer Power Supply is in EXCELLENT used condition! There is no major corrosion, and 95% of the original RLM66 paint remains! Some slight dents and scratches, however the Fl. label is 100% intact, clearly indicating Ln. 27375. Appears to be 100% complete internally. Not sure if it is electrically functional, so I am selling this as-is. A FANTASTIC addition to any collection or restoration project!
