Mitchell.)Medals Verification: All three Great War medals verified as the recipient's full British medal entitlement for the Great War per the below referenced medal rolls:- 1914-15 Star: WO 329/2760. To France 26/07/15. Commission 05/11/16 Royal West Kent Regiment- British War Medal. Silver issue: WO 329/1448. Formerly Sergeant 7/Royal West Kents- Interallied Victory Medal: WO 329/1448. Commissioned 2/West Riding RegimentWilliam Edward Mitchell, first entered theatre of war 'France' on 26 July 1915, at which time he was holding the regimental number GS/3368 and was serving with the 7th (Service) Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment - one of Kitchener's New Army Battalions. He disembarked at Le Havre, France, on 26/27 July 1915. Subsequently promoted Sergeant, William was evidently a very capable NCO as he was commissioned from the ranks on 5 November 1916, at which time he was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant and posted to the 2nd Battalion West Riding Regiment (Duke of Wellington's Regiment). While serving in France with 2/DWR, the respective battalion war diary makes mention that at some time he was assigned duty with a detachment of his battalion, on a 'Decauville Railway' (these were narrow-gauge or trench railways of which were widely in use with the French and British Armies in France during the Great War.)A choice condition group, the medals all virtually pristineCondition: EF
