Description
Armor Plate from ME 262-The Messerschmitt Me 262, nicknamed 'Schwalbe' (Swallow), was the world's first operational jet fighter, used by Nazi Germany during World War II. It featured twin Junker engines, swept wings, and a high top speed of 540 mph (870km/h), and was the newest technology of the war. This plane was a formidable enemy! This is a piece of steel that would sit behind the pilot's seat to protect him. This armor plate measures 10 ½ inches (26.67cm) long, and 6 inches (15.24cm) wide, and would be bolted into the seat, just behind the pilot protecting him from allied fire. You can see how this had three bolts that would attach this steel plate to the seat. One of the bolts has been sheared off, but two remain. This is nicely marked. A very rare artifact from the war. Extra shipping will apply as this weighs just under 4lbs (1.8kg).
