Description

German WWII Signed Photo of Knights Cross Winner Fredrich-Heinrich Musculus-The following newspaper excerpt (dated Feb 02, 1943) describes why Musculus was awarded the Knights Cross…'Major Musculus held off strong Soviet forces between the Caucasus and the Don long enough for his Division to complete its withdrawal from the enemy.'Major Friedrich Musculus, was commander of the 111th Panzerjäger Battalion. They defended a blocking position on the Kuma River with grenadiers and engineers to prevent the advancing Soviet units from destroying the 1st Panzer Army. In a swampy area on the neighboring Solka River, a skirmish broke out between Soviet cavalry and German defenders. A combat group of the 111th Infantry Division was surrounded but later managed to escape in close combat. These delaying actions successfully covered the army's retreat until February 1943. This is how he won his Knights Cross. The photo is signed in blue ink. It measures 5 ¾ inches (14.60cm) tall, by 3 ½ inches (8.89cm) wide. It is in very good condition.
