Description

GVR 1st type WW1 Military Medal (MM) & PairTo- 337523.PTE.H.GLEAVE.2/1.W.LANC.F.A.RAMC.Edward Gleave from St. Helens served in France with the 2/1st West Lancashire field ambulance of the R.A.M.C as part of the 55th division. He was awarded the MM in the London gazette 7-10-1918 with the following citation.For great bravery during the fighting near Loisne from 11th to 14th of April 1918. Regardless of danger he worked unceasingly & with the greatest coolness through an intense bombardment in bringing casualties to comparative safety. On several occasions he volunteered to take messages through very heavy shell fire, thereby securing early help, and hastening the evacuation of the wounded.He was also awarded the divisional gallantry card for the same actions.After the war he went on to become a housemaster at Ryedale grammar school & wrote a number of published poems & verses.NEF & Complete with the original MM card, 55th division gallantry card, boxes of issue for both the MM & the pair .Along with copy citation, London gazette details, MIC details, copy obituary from the school magazine & other basic research details.
