Here on offer is a gilt copper medal token issued to commemorate Lord Nelson's Death centenary in 1905 by the British & foreign sailor's societyIn 1905 the B.F.S.S. (British & Foreign Sailor's Society) was instrumental in the program of events for the Nelson Centennial.A fund was set up known as 'The Nelson Centenary Memorial Fund' and the King, who took a great interest in the Society, allowed his initials, E.R. VII, to be stamped on the souvenirs.The subscribers to the fund were able to acquire medals and badges, amongst other items, for the donations and collections.Copper was also used to make Nelson busts which were available for donations of ยฃ50.The remaining copper from H.M.S. FOUDROYANT was also acquired and used to provide HMS Victory souvenirs for the boys and girls of the Empire.The front of the medal token shows Lord Nelson standing, with wording underneath:DEATH OF NELSON OCT.21, 1805 CENTENARY MEMENTO OCT. 21, 1905E.R. VIIAround the inner edge it reads:PRESENTED BY BRITISH & FOREIGN SAILORS SOCIETYCONTAINING VICTORY COPPER FROM LORDS OF THE ADMIRALTYThe reverse shows the image of HMS Victory in full sail, with wording:VICTORY TRAFALGAR OCT. 21, 1805Around the inner edge it reads:ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERYMAN WILL DO HIS DUTYTHANK GOD I HAVE DONE MY DUTYThe token is in great condition with clear images and writing to both sides.There is still a small amount of the original gilt left, please see my pictures.A small hole was drilled into these tokens to allow them to be worn as pendants.It measures 1.1' (2.8cm) diameter and weighs 12g.Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.Please see my TERMS OF BUSINESS regarding Deliver Charges and Insurance regarding additional insurance cover, should you require it, BEFORE the item is dispatched.The responsibility lies with the customer to check with your Customs restrictions that this item can be imported into your country.
