Heer black Panzer wrap for an Obergefreiter manufactured by the firm of Paul Opalla & Co., early war example in a large size (chest size 108), constructed from high quality issue black wool, the lining and internal pockets are of dark grey colored ribbed cotton, the belt hook support straps, tie tape tunnels and buttoning taps are made of a ribbed cotton having a lighter shade, the waist ties are black tape with HBT wave and machine finished ends, the left upper chest has the black ink size stamping with B40 depot, the manufacturer marking is applied to the inside of the right inner chest pocket, the large black doughnut shaped closure buttons are a black composite, the lapel, tab and cuff buttons are smaller and of the same material, there is a black painted steel hook and eye at the throat, the black wool collar patches have rayon piping and are machine sewn replacements for the issue collar patches which would have been wool piped, this appears period done and may have occurred due to the originals being stained or damaged, the Totenkopfen are silver finished magnetic alloy, the prongs are not visible, the sewn in and sewn down shoulder straps have rosa colored wool piping, the shoulder straps were installed during the manufacturing process and are sewn down along their perimeter trough the shoulder fabric but not the lining, each strap has an originally installed field grey painted pebbled button, the second pattern woven white on black national emblem is hand sewn as is proper for this period, the Obergefreiter rank chevron is hand sewn to the left upper arm, it has machine applied subdued Tresse sewn to a black trikot wool backing, the EKII ribbon is sewn down along its edges and looks to be an original application, there is one set of badge loops rendered in grey thread, there are two black painted belt support hooks, there is negligible age and wear, the insignia exhibits light soling, there is darning to the lapel and to the left shoulder under the collar, there are also a few stitch repairs to the left upper arm, desirable maker in an unusually large size, USD $5500 HOLD
