WW1 PairTo- 2-LIEUT.E.J.R.BRIGGS-GOODERHAMReverend Ernest John Robinson Briggs-Gooderham. Was educated at Durham school & Gonville college, Cambridge. He was ordained in 1912 & went on to be commissioned in to the Royal Irish regiment. He spent a large amount of time in Dublin & was present during the Easter rising of 1916. He was stationed roughly 15 miles outside of the city with a machine gun detachment. They watched the flames from a hill above the city & was warned to be ready to turn his guns on the rebels if need be. He was killed in action in France & Flanders 13-12-1916 whilst serving as an officer with the Machine Gun Corps. He has a lengthy five page entry in a book entitled Sportsmen parsons in peace & war. This rare book was written by Mrs. Stuart Menzies & a first edition copy is included with the medals. it was published in 1919.GVF & Complete with copy service papers, CWGC details, copy photograph of the recipient & other research including the book (a good reading copy)
