You are bidding on an EXTREMELY RARE example of a LATE-WAR WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Type 3 Flight Navigation Computer! This computer was used by both fighter pilots and navigators throughout the war, in such aircraft as the A6M 'Zero', G4M 'Betty', D4Y 'Judy, and others!Pilots and flight personnel used this device to accurately plot the flight bath to their destination. It would aid in the calculation of time, speed, distance, airspeed, pressures, densities and temperature. Carried without the cockpit, this was the produced between 1941 and 1945. Resembling a hand-held fan or ping pong paddle, these computers were considered to be somewhat heavy, considering they were designed for use in an aircraft. When not in use, thy could be suspended by a hook and chain. Saburo Sakai mentions using this flight computer quite extensively, and jokingly wrote that it doubled quite nicely as a hand-held fan when in a warm cockpit.Made of a lightweight aluminum between 1944 and 1945, this paddle style flight computer is in NICE used condition! Similar to the Type 2 variant, this LATER model was simplified by making it smaller, and using less materials. It could properly calculate Time, Speed, Distance, and Altitude Pressure/Density. 100% functional, the adjustment wheels move easily by rotating in either direction. Also retains the ORIGINAL cockpit hook and chain! Some of the plexi is cracked, as you can see in the photos, but it does not affect the function. Some slight staining due to the age. A prominent Japanese Navy Anchor is also featured on the back. Almost never found on the market today, and like most Japanese items is a VERY RARE item, PERFECT for any collection or display!
