A pair of WW1 German Army 6x Heli-Triëder binoculars by CP Goerz, Berlin & coming with brown leather case. These are distinctly of the WW1 period as the 'DRP' wording was dropped by the end of the First world war.A well used pair with fully adjustable focussing which is still good & sharp. See photos of markings on each shoulder , serial number is '536922'. Brown leather case is of the period with remains of owners label on front , details no longer visible sadly. Complete with neck strap this has been wrapped around the central column for years so I have made no attempt to unravel it .The company was founded in 1886 by Carl Paul Goerz, making mathematical instruments. They eventually started manufacturing cameras and binoculars. Described as 'a thorn in the side of Carl Zeiss', following financial difficulties post WW1, they were bought out by Zeiss in 1927.In 1908 Goerz brought out the Armee Heli-Triëder in 6x24, as well as a 'tourist version' in 6x21. They were also produced as 'Armee' and 'Marine (6x30)' , as well as an 8x version. In 1908, the Heli-Triëder, Armee-Triëder and Marine-Triëder were officially adopted by the Imperial German Army. During WW1 Goerz produced optical items for the German and Austro-Hungarian armies. The DRP on the left prism cover stands for Deutsches Reich Patent, or Imperial German Patent. The DRP was dropped from their binoculars by the end of WW1.
