WW2 Economy version of the serving brother of the Order of St. John, GVR 1st type WW1 Distinguished Conduct MEDAL (DCM), 1914-15 Trio, WW2 Defence Medal, 1937 Coronation Medal & GVR Territorial Force Efficiency Medal To- 905309.SJT.W.J.MUMFORD.A.235/LOND.BDE.RFA733.BMBR-ASJT/BQM.SJT.W.J.MUMFORD.RFA/RA950309.BQM.SJT.W.J.MUMFORD.R.F.AWilliam James Mumford from Fulham first landed in France 15-3-1915 & went on to be wounded 11-2-1916. He was awarded the DCM for services in France with the 235th London battery R.F.A in the London gazette 3-9-1918 with the following citation.For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty during an enemy attack. He made a daring rapid reconnaissance, and brought back valuable information, to do which he passed under very heavy enemy barrage. He did fine service.At this stage the London gazette stated that he was a resident of West Hampstead & that his actions took place at Beugny. He was discharged in 1919 & almost immediately re-enlisted. On his return to civilian life he went on to become a policeman within the city of London. He was awarded the 1937 Coronation medal as a police inspector & this was followed by the award of the Order of St John in the London gazette 25-6-1943.
