9ct Gold full hunter pocket watch with English lever movement.The reverse engraved as followsPRESENTED BY THE PEOPLE OF KILSYTH AND DISTRICT, TO MR & MRS.T.LOUDONIN RECOGNITION OF THE GALLANTRY OF THEIR SON.SERGT.A.LOUDON.MM.7th A&S.HWHO FELL IN ACTION 3rd MAY 191719-11-19191804.Pte / Sjt. Alexander Loudon / London first landed in France 11-5-1915 serving with the 7th battalion of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. He transferred to the Machine Gun Corps with service number 18429 & was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 3-5-1917 serving with the 27th company Machine Gun Corps (Infantry) His award of the Military Medal (MM) for services in France was published in the London gazette 9-7-1917 two months after his death.He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Arras memorial. SDGW states that was born in Glasgow & enlisted in Kilsyth & the CWGC graves commission state that he was the late 27 year old son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Loudon of Sterling Road, Kilsyth, Glasgow.EF/ MINT & running when wound but I can not guarantee its accuracy & reliability. Complete with MIC details, London gazette details, CWGC details & SDGW details (Name spelt as Loudon or London but the service numbers confirm).One very light hairline crack in the white enamel of the face.The watch weighs 94 grams which if you allow 44 grams for the movement, springs & glass leaves 54 grams of 9ct gold. Which today 7-10-2025 has a scrap value of ยฃ1723.50 hence the price.
