Here on offer is a rare original WW2 Royal Air Force No 617 Squadron 'The Dambusters' badge, by H. W. Miller Ltd, circa 1944.This gilt and enamel badge was made to commemorate the Dambusters 'Operation Chastise'. This was commonly known as the Dambusters Raid and was an attack on German dams carried out on the night of 16/17 May 1943 by 617 Squadron RAF Bomber Command, later called the Dam Busters, using special bouncing bombs developed by Barnes Wallis.It depicts the King's Crown at the top and the bursting of a German dam in the centre, surrounded by the details:617 SQUADRON 617ROYAL AIR FORCEAt the bottom, it displays the French motto 'Apres Moi Le Deluge', which translates to 'after me the flood.On the reverse it has the maker's details:H. W.
