The Eastern Medal, the 'Winter Campaign in the East 1941-42 Medal', was a military award of the Wehrmacht, established by decree of Adolf Hitler on 26 May 1942.The East Medal was awarded to every member of the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS 'in recognition of experience in combat against the Bolshevik enemies and the Russian winter during the period from November 15, 1941, to April 15, 1942.' The medal was also awarded posthumously to any serviceman who died in the line of duty in the Soviet Union.
