421e Régiment d'Artillerie Antiaérienne (421st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment) of the French Army.Wings + gun barrels = anti-aircraft artillery.Red/green shield and the pentagram star reference North Africa (notably Morocco), where the regiment was stationed part of the time.Formed: October 1945 from wartime AA groups; initially in Germany after WWII.Later based at Strasbourg, then sent to North Africa in the mid-1950s. The regiment operated in Algeria during the war of independence (its colours bear the inscription AFN 1952-1962).Detachments worked in the Aurès–Nemencha/Batna area; elements even supported Commandos de chasse in that sector.Disbanded: 30 Nov 1961.
