Description

German Eastern Front Medal (Medaille für die Winterschlacht im Osten) with Award Document (Urkunde). The German Eastern Front Medal was instituted on 26 May 1942 to commemorate the first winter campaign in Russia, operation Barbarossa. The medal was also known as the 'Frozen Meat Medal'. Approximately 3 million examples have been awarded. This DIN-A5 sized document was awarded to Obergefreiten 'Peter Simon' (Artillerie-Regiment 67) on 30 May 1942. The award document has been folded but is in good condition. The medal is not visible maker marked, the medal comes together with its original carton pouch of issue as found together, the pouch is maker marked by the company of 'B.H. Mayer' from Pforzheim. Nice original award & document as found together!
