This is an exceptional group of medals to Commandant Robert Brennan who led the Wexford Volunteers and took control of Enniscorty during Easter Week 1916.This was the most significant Volunteer action outside of Dublin.They held out until he received an order from Pearse to surrender.He was Courtl martialed and sentenced to death, sentence was commuted to life in prison.Imprisoned in Dartmoor, on release he became The Director of Elections for Sinn Fein 1918, Headed the government department of publicity in 1919.He also took a very active fighting role in the Irish War of Independence 1919-21.Group consists of 1916 medal in original box, The 1919-21 War of Independence Medal with Comrac Bar for combat with British Troops, original transmittal slip, and an original 1916 postcard with a picture of Robert Brennan on it.A serious piece of history.
