GVIR 1st type N.G.S 1915-1962 With Palestine 1936-39 Clasp, 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, 1939-45 War Medal & GVIR 1st type RN LS&GCTo- D/J.98715.PO.L.SMITH.HMS.DEFIANCE.Leslie Smith from Plymouth enlisted in to the Royal Navy in 1920. He served in Palestine during the Arab revolt of 1936-39 & was sadly lost at sea when HMS Itchen was sunk by U-666 23-9-1943. He has no grave other than the sea & as such he is commemorated on the Plymouth naval memorial. He was 37 years of age at the time of his death & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of John & Beatrice Smith & the late husband of Gladys Smith of Plymouth.NEF/EF & Complete with original service papers, original seaman's will, Original memorial scroll, Original condolence slip & photo of the recipient in uniform. The scroll is housed in a frame & is slightly sun faded. The condolence slip was once in a frame & has glue residue to the reverse & is very sun faded. the photo has glue residue to the reverse.
